Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a round cake pan.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract, lemon zest, and lemon juice.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with buttermilk. Mix until just combined.

Gently fold in the strawberries.

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
