  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a square baking pan.
  2. In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and dark chocolate together.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour the melted chocolate mixture into the egg mixture and stir well.
  5. Sift in the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Mix until just combined.
  6. If desired, fold in the walnuts.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the brownies cool in the pan for 30 minutes.
