Creme brulee is a classic French dessert that literally translates to ‘burnt cream’. The caramelized sugar crust on top is one of the signature features of this decadent dessert.

  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C).
  2. In a saucepan, heat the eggnog and heavy cream over medium heat until steaming.
  3. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the egg yolks, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, and ground nutmeg.
  4. Slowly pour the hot eggnog mixture into the egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly.
  5. Strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any lumps.
  6. Divide the mixture among four ramekins.
  7. Place the ramekins in a baking dish and fill the dish with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the ramekins.
  8. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the custards are set but still slightly jiggly in the center.
  9. Remove the ramekins from the water bath and let them cool to room temperature.
  10. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or overnight.
  11. Just before serving, sprinkle each custard with turbinado sugar and caramelize the sugar using a kitchen torch.
  12. Serve immediately and enjoy!
