  2. Peel and core the apples, then cut them into quarters.
  3. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract.
  4. Roll out the puff pastry sheet and cut it into 6 equal squares.
  5. Place an apple quarter on each square of pastry. Spoon the sugar mixture onto the apple.
  6. Fold the pastry over the apple, pinching the edges to seal.
  7. Place the dumplings in a baking dish.
  8. In a small saucepan, melt the butter and water together. Pour the mixture over the dumplings.
  9. Bake for 35 minutes or until the pastry is golden brown and the apples are tender.
