Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a large mixing bowl, combine the vanilla cake mix, orange gelatin, orange juice, vegetable oil, eggs, and orange zest. Mix well until all ingredients are fully incorporated.

Pour the batter into a greased and floured 9x13-inch baking pan.

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.

In a separate mixing bowl, combine the whipped topping, orange extract, and orange food coloring. Mix well until the color is evenly distributed.

Once the cake has cooled, spread the whipped topping mixture over the top of the cake.

Place the cake in the refrigerator and let it rest for at least 1 hour before serving.
