  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. Melt 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add brown sugar and cook until melted and bubbling. Pour the mixture into the prepared cake pan.
  3. Arrange pineapple slices on top of the caramelized sugar mixture.
  4. In a mixing bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.
  5. In a separate bowl, cream together granulated sugar and remaining unsalted butter. Add vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with milk. Mix until just combined.
  7. Stir in dark rum.
  8. Pour the batter over the pineapple slices in the cake pan.
