Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a square baking pan with parchment paper.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the dark chocolate and unsalted butter together in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the dark brown sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.

Gradually pour the melted chocolate mixture into the sugar mixture, stirring until fully incorporated.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

If desired, fold in the walnuts.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
