In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cornmeal, baking powder, salt, and sugar. In a separate bowl, beat the eggs, then add the milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract. Mix well. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Gently fold in the cranberries. Preheat a waffle iron and lightly grease with cooking spray or butter. Pour the batter onto the hot waffle iron and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions. Repeat with the remaining batter. Serve the waffles warm with maple syrup, butter, and additional cranberries for garnish if desired.
