Classic Macaroni and Cheese
Macaroni and cheese originated in Italy and was brought to the United States by Thomas Jefferson, who served it at a state dinner in 1802.

Cook macaroni according to package instructions. Drain and set aside.

In a saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Stir in flour, salt, and black pepper until smooth. Gradually add milk, stirring constantly until mixture thickens.

Remove saucepan from heat and stir in shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.

Combine cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce and mix well.

Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and sprinkle breadcrumbs on top.

Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.
