Contrary to its name, ‘fried’ ice cream is not actually fried in oil. The ice cream balls are coated in a crispy crust and quickly fried to create a warm, crunchy exterior while keeping the ice cream inside frozen.

  1. Scoop the vanilla ice cream into 4 balls and place them on a baking sheet.
  2. Freeze the ice cream balls for 2 hours.
  3. Crush the corn flakes in a bowl and mix in the cinnamon.
  4. Roll each frozen ice cream ball in the corn flakes mixture until fully coated.
  5. Beat the egg in a separate bowl.
  6. Dip each coated ice cream ball in the beaten egg, then roll again in the corn flakes mixture.
  7. Place the coated ice cream balls back on the baking sheet and freeze for another 2 hours.
  8. Heat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Carefully lower the coated ice cream balls into the hot oil and fry for about 30 seconds, until golden brown.
  10. Remove the fried ice cream balls from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  11. Drizzle each fried ice cream ball with honey and serve immediately.
  12. Top with whipped cream and cherries, if desired.
