The tradition of leaving cookies out for Santa Claus is said to have originated in the 1930s during the Great Depression as a way to teach children about the importance of sharing.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt.

In a separate large bowl, cream together the unsalted butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Stir in the milk, M&Ms, chocolate chips, and chopped nuts.

Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto a greased or parchment-lined baking sheet.

Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.

Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.

Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
