  1. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and mix well.
  4. Divide the dough into two equal portions, wrap in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
  5. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  6. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out the desired shapes for the house walls, roof, and other decorations.
  7. Bake the cookies for 10-12 minutes or until lightly golden brown. Allow them to cool completely on a wire rack.
  8. In a small bowl, mix the icing sugar with a few drops of food coloring and enough water to make a thick icing.
  9. Assemble the cookie house using the icing as glue and decorate with assorted candies.
  10. Let the icing dry and harden before serving.
