  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a baking dish.
  2. Melt the butter and dark chocolate in a heatproof bowl over simmering water.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture to the sugar mixture, stirring until well combined.
  5. Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and salt, and fold gently until just combined.
  6. Stir in the walnuts.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.
  8. Bake for 25 minutes or until the brownies are set around the edges but still slightly soft in the center.
  9. Remove from the oven and let cool in the baking dish for 10 minutes.
  10. Transfer the brownies to a wire rack to cool completely before cutting into squares.
