Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan.

In a large bowl, combine oats, all-purpose flour, brown sugar, baking soda, and salt.

Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

In a separate bowl, beat the egg and vanilla extract. Add to the oat mixture and mix well.
