Chocolate chip cookies were accidentally invented by Ruth Wakefield in 1938 when she ran out of baker’s chocolate and substituted it with chopped chocolate, expecting it to melt and create chocolate cookies.

  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped walnuts.
  6. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish.
  7. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Remove from the oven and let cool in the dish for 30 minutes.
  9. Cut into bars and serve.
