Chocolate Chip Cookies
The first chocolate chip cookie was invented by Ruth Graves Wakefield in 1938 when she added chopped up chocolate to her cookie dough, expecting it to melt and create chocolate cookies. Instead, the chocolate chips held their shape and the chocolate chip cookie was born!

Preheat the oven to 190°C (375°F). In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined. Stir in the chocolate chips and chopped nuts (if using). Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto ungreased baking sheets. Bake for 9-11 minutes or until golden brown. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely. Enjoy!
