Banana bread became popular in the United States during the Great Depression when housewives looked for ways to use overripe bananas instead of throwing them away.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x5-inch loaf pan.

In a mixing bowl, mash the ripe bananas until smooth.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted unsalted butter and granulated sugar. Mix until well combined.

Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.

Fold in the mashed bananas and chocolate chips.

Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top.

Bake for 55-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 15 minutes. Then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
