Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a square baking pan with parchment paper.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the milk chocolate and unsalted butter together, stirring until smooth.

In a separate large bowl, whisk together the granulated sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.

Gradually pour the melted chocolate mixture into the sugar mixture, stirring until fully incorporated.

In another bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Add the dry ingredients to the chocolate mixture and mix until just combined.

If desired, fold in the chopped nuts.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

Remove from the oven and let the brownies cool in the pan for at least 30 minutes.

Once cooled, lift the brownies out of the pan using the parchment paper and cut into squares.
