  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and sugar. Cut in the butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat the egg, vanilla extract, and salt. Add the egg mixture to the flour mixture and mix until well combined.
  4. Press two-thirds of the dough into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the dough.
  5. Crumble the remaining dough over the cherry filling.
  6. Bake for 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown.
  7. Allow to cool for at least 1 hour before cutting into squares.
  8. Serve and enjoy!
