Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with paper liners.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

In a separate large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk.

If desired, divide the batter into separate bowls and add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl to create different colored cupcakes.

Spoon the batter into the prepared cupcake liners, filling each about 2/3 full.

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let the cupcakes cool in the pan for 10 minutes.

Transfer the cupcakes to a wire rack and let them cool completely.

Once cooled, frost the cupcakes with buttercream frosting and garnish with sprinkles.
