Tassies are miniature tart-like cookies that originated in Scotland and became popular in the southern United States.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and grease a mini muffin tin.
  2. In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter, cream cheese, and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add in the flour, vanilla extract, and salt. Mix until well combined.
  4. Divide the dough into 24 equal-sized balls and press each ball into the wells of the muffin tin.
  5. Bake for 10 minutes, then remove from the oven.
  6. Use the back of a teaspoon to create a well in the center of each cookie.
  7. Fill each well with a teaspoon of caramel sauce.
  8. Sprinkle chopped pecans on top of each cookie.
  9. Return the tassies to the oven and bake for an additional 10 minutes.
  10. Remove from the oven and allow to cool before serving.
