The tradition of birthday cakes dates back to ancient Greece when people would make round cakes to honor the moon goddess Artemis.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a cake pan.

In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

Add the butter, milk, vanilla extract, and eggs to the dry ingredients and mix until well combined.

Divide the batter into separate bowls and add food coloring to each bowl to create different colors.

Pour the colored batters into the greased cake pan, alternating colors to create a marbled effect.

Use a knife or toothpick to gently swirl the colors together.

Bake in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes.

Transfer the cake to a wire rack to cool completely.

Once cooled, frost the cake with your favorite frosting and decorate as desired.
