Ankake is a Japanese term meaning ‘thick sauce’ and is commonly used in Chinese cuisine as well.

This is vegetarian, gluten free and high protein recipe. Dish can be prepared in 40 minutes. Recipe requires some culinary experience (medium difficulty). Number of ingredients: 10.

  1. Cut the broccoli into florets and blanch in boiling water for 2 minutes. Drain and set aside.
  2. Cut the tofu into cubes.
  3. In a small bowl, mix soy sauce, minced garlic, minced ginger, cornstarch, and water to make the sauce.
  4. Heat vegetable oil in a pan or wok over medium heat. Add the tofu and stir-fry until golden brown.
  5. Add the blanched broccoli to the pan and stir-fry for another minute.
  6. Pour the sauce over the tofu and broccoli mixture. Stir well and cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  8. Serve hot with steamed rice or noodles.
