Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x9 inch baking dish.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.

In a separate bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, rolled oats, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing well after each addition.

Press two-thirds of the oat mixture into the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Spread the blackcurrant jam evenly over the oat mixture. Crumble the remaining oat mixture over the top.

Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until golden brown. Allow to cool completely in the baking dish before cutting into bars.
