  2. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and ground cloves.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Stir in the milk to form a dough.
  6. Divide the dough in half and shape each half into a log.
  7. Wrap the logs in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
  8. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  9. Slice the chilled dough into 1/4 inch thick rounds and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown.
