Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a muffin tin or line with paper liners.

In a large bowl, mash the ripe bananas with a fork until smooth.

Add the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt to the bowl with the mashed bananas. Stir until just combined.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract.

Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl with the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined.

Gently fold in the chocolate chips.

Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups, filling each about 2/3 full.

Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a muffin comes out clean.

Allow the muffins to cool in the tin for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
