  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut the butter into small pieces and add it to the flour mixture. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, and vanilla extract.
  5. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  6. Gently fold in the dried currants or raisins.
  7. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it a few times until it comes together.
