Panettone is a traditional Italian Christmas bread, but this American-style version adds cranberries and almonds for a festive twist.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the melted butter, warm milk, eggs, vanilla extract, lemon zest, and orange zest.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a sticky dough forms.

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Punch down the dough and knead in the dried cranberries, golden raisins, and chopped almonds.

Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it in a greased panettone mold or a deep cake pan.

Cover the pan with a clean kitchen towel and let the dough rise for another 1 hour.
