Brownies were invented in the United States and are believed to have been created by accident when a chef forgot to add baking powder to a chocolate cake batter.

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a baking dish.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter and dark chocolate together.

In a separate bowl, whisk the sugar, eggs, and vanilla extract until well combined.

Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture to the egg mixture, stirring continuously.

Sift in the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt. Mix until just combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.

Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
