Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a muffin tin or line with paper liners.

In a large bowl, mash the bananas. Add the oats, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and brown sugar. Stir until well combined.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract. Pour the wet ingredients into the banana mixture and stir until just combined.

Fold in the chocolate chips and chopped walnuts.

Divide the batter evenly among the muffin cups. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove from the oven and let the muffins cool in the tin for 5 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
