  1. Preheat a grill or skillet over medium heat.
  2. Butter one side of each slice of rye bread.
  3. Place four slices of bread, buttered side down, on the grill or skillet.
  4. Top each slice with a slice of Swiss cheese.
  5. Spread sauerkraut evenly over the cheese.
  6. Spread Russian dressing on the remaining four slices of bread.
  7. Place the remaining slices of bread, dressing side down, on top of the sauerkraut.
  8. Cook the sandwiches for 3-4 minutes on each side, until the bread is toasted and the cheese is melted.
  9. Remove from heat and let the sandwiches rest for 5 minutes.
  10. Cut the sandwiches in half and serve.
