Preheat the oven to 225°F (110°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large mixing bowl, beat the egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form.

Gradually add the sugar, one tablespoon at a time, while continuing to beat the mixture until stiff peaks form.

Gently fold in the vanilla extract, salt, and chocolate chips.

Drop spoonfuls of the meringue mixture onto the prepared baking sheet.

Bake for 60 minutes, then turn off the oven and let the meringues cool in the oven for 30 minutes.

Remove from the oven and let cool completely before serving.
