It was created by accident in the 19th century when the Tatin sisters, who owned a hotel in France, accidentally cooked the apples upside down but decided to serve it that way. It has since become a beloved dessert around the world.

Ingredients
  • 800 gram Apples
  • 150 gram Sugar
  • 100 gram Butter
  • 300 gram Puff pastry
  • 1 teaspoon Lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  2. Peel and core the apples, then slice them into thin wedges.
  3. In a saucepan, melt the butter and sugar over medium heat until it caramelizes.
  4. Add the lemon juice, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and salt to the caramel and stir well.
  5. Arrange the apple slices in a circular pattern on the bottom of a greased tart pan.
  6. Pour the caramel mixture over the apples, making sure to coat them evenly.
  7. Roll out the puff pastry and place it over the apples, tucking in the edges.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  10. Carefully invert the tart onto a serving plate.
  11. Serve warm and enjoy!
