  4. Add the Parmesan cheese, thyme, rosemary, garlic, salt, and black pepper to the cream. Stir until the cheese has melted and the herbs are well incorporated.
  5. Grease a baking dish with butter.
  6. Arrange a layer of potato slices in the bottom of the dish.
  7. Pour some of the cream mixture over the potatoes.
  8. Repeat the layers until all the potatoes and cream mixture are used, ending with a layer of cream on top.
  9. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  10. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden and the potatoes are tender.
  11. Let the gratin rest for 10 minutes before serving.
