Chocolate chip cookies were invented by Ruth Graves Wakefield in the 1930s when she added chopped chocolate to her cookie dough, expecting it to melt and create chocolate cookies. Instead, the chocolate stayed in chunks, creating the first chocolate chip cookies.

Ingredients
  • 1.5 cup All-purpose flour
  • 0.5 cup Cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 0.25 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.75 cup Unsalted butter
  • 0.75 cup Granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cup Brown sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set.
  9. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
