  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk, egg, and vanilla extract.
  3. Gradually pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until well combined.
  4. Fold in the raisins.
  5. Heat oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 375°F (190°C).
  6. Drop spoonfuls of the batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, turning occasionally.
  7. Remove the oliebollen from the oil and drain on paper towels.
  8. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
  9. Let the oliebollen rest for 30 minutes before serving for optimal flavor.
