  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with hot water. Mix well after each addition.
  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.
  6. Bake for 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the gingerbread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
