Coffee cake doesn’t actually contain coffee in the cake itself. It is called coffee cake because it is traditionally served with coffee.

This is vegetarian recipe. Dish can be prepared in 55 minutes. Recipe requires some culinary experience (medium difficulty). Number of ingredients: 12.

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a small bowl, dissolve the instant coffee granules in milk.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the coffee mixture. Mix until just combined.
  5. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped walnuts.
  6. Pour half of the batter into the prepared cake pan. Sprinkle half of the brown sugar mixture over the batter. Repeat with the remaining batter and brown sugar mixture.
  7. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Serve and enjoy!
