  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cut the butter into small cubes and add it to the flour mixture. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to rub the butter into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  4. Stir in the sugar.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat the egg, milk, and vanilla extract together.
  6. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  7. Gently fold in the dried currants or raisins.
  8. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it a few times to bring it together.
  9. Pat the dough into a circle about 1 inch (5 cm) thick.
  10. Cut the dough into 8 wedges and transfer them to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  11. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown.
