Ingredients
  • 2 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup Granulated sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup Molasses
  • 1/2 cup Buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup Hot water
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix the melted butter and granulated sugar until well combined. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract and molasses.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the buttermilk. Begin and end with the flour mixture. Mix until just combined.
  5. Stir in the hot water until the batter is smooth.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top.
  7. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes. Then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Once cooled, you can frost the cake with your favorite frosting or enjoy it as is.
