In a large mixing bowl, combine warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.

Add flour and salt to the bowl and mix until a dough forms.

Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.

Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean cloth, and let it rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Punch down the dough and divide it into 6 equal portions.

Roll each portion into a long rope and shape it into a heart shape.

In a large pot, bring water to a boil and add baking soda.

Carefully place each pretzel into the boiling water for 30 seconds, then remove and transfer to the prepared baking sheet.
