  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples.
  3. Roll out the puff pastry sheets and cut into squares.
  4. Place an apple slice in the center of each pastry square.
  5. In a saucepan, melt the butter and add the brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and water. Cook until the sugar is dissolved.
  6. Pour the sauce over the apple-filled pastry squares.
  7. Fold the corners of the pastry squares over the apples, forming dumplings.
  8. Place the dumplings in a baking dish and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until golden brown.
  9. Let the dumplings rest for 10 minutes before serving.
