  1. Preheat the oven to 325°F (165°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs, one at a time, followed by the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk.
  6. Fold in the dried fruits and chopped nuts.
  7. Pour the batter into a greased and lined loaf pan.
  8. Bake for 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the fruitcake cool in the pan for 10 minutes.
  10. Transfer the fruitcake to a wire rack and let it cool completely.
  11. Once cooled, wrap the fruitcake in plastic wrap and let it rest for at least 2 hours before serving.
