Ingredients
  • 1 cup Cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 1 Egg
  • 1/4 cup Vegetable oil
Instructions
  1. In a large bowl, mix together the cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the buttermilk and egg.
  3. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat.
  5. Drop spoonfuls of the cornbread batter into the hot oil and fry until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  6. Remove the fried cornbread from the skillet and place on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
