  2. Cut the butter into small cubes and add it to the dry ingredients. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg, vanilla extract, and milk. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
