Deviled eggs are believed to have originated in ancient Rome, where they were served as a first course known as ‘gustatio’.

This is vegetarian, gluten free, high protein and low carb recipe. Dish can be prepared in 60 minutes. Recipe requires some culinary experience (medium difficulty). Number of ingredients: 8.

  1. Place the eggs in a saucepan and cover with water. Bring to a boil over high heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer for 10 minutes.
  2. Remove the eggs from the saucepan and place them in a bowl of ice water to cool.
  3. Once the eggs are cool, gently tap them on a hard surface to crack the shells. Carefully peel off the shells.
  4. Cut the eggs in half lengthwise and carefully remove the yolks.
  5. In a bowl, mash the yolks with a fork. Add mayonnaise, mustard, vinegar, and salt. Mix until smooth.
  6. Divide the yolk mixture into separate bowls. Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl and mix well.
  7. Spoon the colored yolk mixture back into the egg white halves.
  8. Sprinkle paprika over the eggs and garnish with fresh herbs if desired.
  9. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving.
