Popovers are called so because they ‘pop’ over the top of the pan while baking, creating a hollow center and a crispy exterior.

This is vegetarian recipe. Dish can be prepared in 45 minutes. Recipe requires some culinary experience (medium difficulty). Number of ingredients: 6.

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a popover pan or muffin tin.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the milk and eggs.
  4. Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, whisking until just combined.
  5. Stir in the grated cheddar cheese.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan, filling each cup about 3/4 full.
  7. Drizzle melted butter over the top of each popover.
  8. Bake for 20 minutes, then reduce the oven temperature to 350°F (180°C) and bake for an additional 10 minutes or until the popovers are puffed and golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and let rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  10. Serve warm.
