The chocolate chip cookie was invented by Ruth Graves Wakefield in the 1930s. She ran the Toll House Inn in Massachusetts and added chopped up chocolate to her cookie dough, expecting it to melt and create chocolate cookies. Instead, the chocolate chips held their shape and the chocolate chip cookie was born!

Ingredients
  • 1 cup Butter
  • 1/2 cup Granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup Brown sugar
  • 1 Egg
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 cups Semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  6. Stir in the chocolate chips.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  8. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown around the edges.
  9. Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes.
  10. Transfer the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
