Baklava is believed to have originated in the Ottoman Empire and is a popular dessert in many Middle Eastern and Mediterranean cuisines.

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

Grind the walnuts, almonds, and pistachios.

In a saucepan, combine sugar, water, lemon juice, cinnamon, and cloves. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes.

Melt the butter.

Layer 6 sheets of filo pastry, brushing each sheet with melted butter.

Spread a layer of the nut mixture over the top sheet.

Layer another 6 sheets of filo pastry on top, brushing each sheet with melted butter.

Cut the baklava into diamond-shaped pieces.

Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

Pour the syrup over the hot baklava.

Let the baklava cool and rest for at least 2 hours before serving.
