Apple Turnovers by Marzetti
Apple turnovers are believed to have originated in Europe during the Middle Ages and were often served as a sweet treat during festivals and celebrations.

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

Peel, core, and chop the apples into small pieces.

In a mixing bowl, combine the chopped apples, granulated sugar, ground cinnamon, and lemon juice. Mix well.

In a separate bowl, mix the all-purpose flour and salt.

Cut the unsalted butter into small cubes and add it to the flour mixture. Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut the butter into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Add the cold water to the flour mixture and stir until the dough comes together.

On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/8 inch thick.

Cut the dough into 8 squares.

Spoon the apple mixture onto the center of each square.

Fold the dough over the filling to form a triangle and press the edges to seal.

Place the turnovers on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.

In a small bowl, beat the egg with a tablespoon of water. Brush the tops of the turnovers with the egg wash.

Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the turnovers are golden brown.

In a separate bowl, mix the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk to make a glaze.

Drizzle the glaze over the warm turnovers.
